McCain and National Literacy Trust help parents with reading by giving away free books plus win your own

Sponsored competition: The National Literacy trust has teamed up with McCain Smiles to help parents with reading. During a survey the National Literacy trust has found that, “ nine out of ten parents would like to spend more time developing their child’s literacy skills.” Help is here with a video featuring tips from mums on how to make reading a fun and effortless part of the everyday routine.

We love reading all different types of materials here on Raising Playful Tots. Just recently we’ve had  show #102 our guest talked about storytelling and especially using fairytales. We also find opportunities to talk about what’s going on inside the story and make predictions.

McCain Smiles invites readers to seek out promotional packs and inside will be unique codes. Simply collect two codes and head to www.mccain.co.uk/smilesfreebooks to choose from six fairytales on offer – your choice will be posted to you free of charge.

Win a set of books

You have a chance to win a set of books here. Leave a comment sharing your top tip for reading with children

This competition is open to UK residents only.

Competition closes 16th July 2012

The winner will be chosen by McCain Smiles. They will contact you via email and they will be sending out the prize.

ONE Mums #Letsthrive Twitter party

Today you can make a difference by joining a grassroots organisation called ONE. You’ve probably heard of them on the TV and radio. Here’s a little introductory post about why I believe this is something we should be part of with our children. Part of Raising a Playful Tot is about sharing and showing our passions; leading by example and walking the walk of our values. After all, children learn what we do not what we say.

Getting involved is easier than you think. We can’t help everyone. We can’t give to everyone.

Infact ONE isn’t asking for our money at all but our voice.

Today is the start of a new initiative: Thrive.

Here’s what you can do

1. Sign up to ONE.org and lend your voice
2. Join the #ONEMum Twitter party at 12:30 on Tuesday 10 Apr to support #Letsthrive – Come to learn about why we need to support anti-poverty programmes and what they actually achieve! Find out more
3. Write a blog post about it or share on facebook. Come back and share your post here on the linky.
4. Tweet with the hashtag #LetsThrive
5. Keep an eye on the ONE Mum ambassadors blogs for something exciting ….
